of the Earth and the seas The Fossils
(mainly marine, 98% of which have been
collected in France), represent abundantly
all the geological stages covering a
period from - 550 million years (beginning
of the primary era) till - 2 million years
(dawn of humanity). With the
exception of the universitary collections
(at the disposition of the professors and
the students only) or the collections that
are purely regional, there are only very
few general geological collections in
France that are accessible to the larger
